Good footwork is one of the most important skills to have whether your non-athletic or in an athletic sport like boxing, tennis, basketball or football. Or dancing, running or even walking. Good footwork in whatever you are doing will only make you that much better.
Here is my take on footwork and how it helped me out in my life in amazing ways…
I was always a pretty good athlete in sports whether it was martial arts, soccer, baseball, football, running or boxing. I remember when I was boxing at the age of 14 years old, I was starting to struggle in improving my boxing skills so my coach had a plan, this is what my coach Pop’s said to me that started the plan off.
“Jason, your a white boy and you ain’t got no rhythm. So I’m gonna put you in the choir.”
So the first thing he did was enrolled me in his/my Church Choir in Pomona, California called New Gethsemane Church of God in Christ.
Yup, so here I am in the choir. Wow, oh man I look back and I laugh because here I am, the only white boy in church to start with, now I’m in the choir, I don’t have any rhythm. Where was I placed? Right in the middle of the front row! OMG! LoL! LoL, well, as the weeks went by my rhythm got better and better and BOOM!!! I now have rhythm!!!
Here are some techniques and drills that will help you improve your footwork so you yourself can have that edge on whatever it is you choose to do!
