There have been times in my life where I didn’t go for it. And every time I didn’t go for it, I regretted it every single time!!!
I remember back in 1997 where I represented my home state of California in the 1997 USA Championships. This was the first year I was old enough to compete in this USA national tournament which sets each year off with the top 10 rankings in each division.
Here I am, 17 years old, one of the youngest in the tournament and I was ready to go for it and lay it all out on the line!!!
When I arrived to the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs I felt the adrenaline in the air and I knew that this was my time to go for it!!!
I just went through a really tough training camp to where I had black eyes from boxing against tough guys while training that helped prepare me, so I could be at my best. So although I might of looked a little beat up, I was ready more then ever before!!!
While at the Olympic Training Center, boxers from all across the nation where there and seemed to know each other because they have been to this tournament before.
But I stayed focused and even though I didn’t have the experience like the other boxers in the tournament did, along with being younger than just about everyone else, I was hungry to GO FOR IT!!! That is what I did each and every match and I was victorious.
After the tournament was over, I was announced the 1997 USA Champion in my division along with being one of the youngest boxers to ever win this tournament.
Now take these 3 words and put them into action…GO FOR IT!
